Franklin County Sheriff Major passes away following battle with cancer

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Maj. Michael Copeland has died following a battle with cancer.

Maj. Copeland passed away Sunday morning, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

In the post, Sheriff Gary Toelke wrote that Maj. Copeland was “a great friend, great cop, great leader, and a great man who is now in a great place.”

Maj. Copeland joined the department as a dispatcher in the Communications Division on New Year’s Day 1971. In 1988, he was appointed to serve as the Chief Deputy, of the department, according to the department’s website.

Donations or memorials can be made to the Franklin County Deputies' Association's 'Gold Star Fund' or the 'Building Fund' at the First Baptist Church in Villa Ridge.
