JUPITER, FL. (KMOV.com) -- Yadier Molina will make his spring debut Wednesday, starting at catcher and batting ninth.

Recovering from two surgeries to repair a torn ligament in his thumb, the eight-time Gold Glover only recently picked up a bat, and is not yet ready to swing against live pitching. To get him work behind the plate but avoid risk with a bat, Mike Matheny docked him in the last spot in the order.

Ideally, he will get two innings of work as backstop for new rotation member Mike Leake, who is also making his spring debut.

Matt Holliday returns to action after his Monday debut, once again starting at first base. The 36-year-old has played in two games so far this spring, both of them in the infield.
