ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – An inspirational colon cancer survivor is sharing his story to help save lives.

Willie Davis has worked at the Christian Hospital for 30 years, but a sign he saw at his workplace in 2014 detailing the symptoms of colon cancer saved his life.

After seeing the sign, Davis realized he was suffering from some of the symptoms so he got screened, which led doctors to find a tumor. Because the tumor was found early, doctors were able to save his life.

“Okay this is colon cancer is a silent killer. This is for everybody go get your colonoscopy down you could be walking around here dying and don’t even know it,” said Davis. “I have been talking to people and many people went and got their colonoscopy because of me.”

Men and women over age 50 should get screened for the deadly disease. African Americans are impacted by colon cancer more than any other race, but early detection can save a life.

Each year about 50,000 Americans die from Colorectal Cancer.
