ST. LOUIS (AP) - The corporate parent of Hardee's and Carl's Jr. fast-food restaurants is consolidating those chains' headquarters in Nashville, pulling its Hardee's base out of St. Louis.

CKE Restaurants says relocating the Hardee's base and the Carl's Jr. one in Carpinteria, California, resulted from the company converting nearly all of its restaurants to franchise operations, reducing the company's need for office space.

CKE says it expects to complete the consolidation early next year and says Nashville is centrally located and among the markets where it has retained company-owned restaurants.

It's unclear how many employees will be affected.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports CKE said last April it was considering moving Hardee's to Nashville. The company moved to St. Louis in 2001, and its 10-year downtown lease expires next year.
