ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A sex offender on parole is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a downtown parking garage.

Timothy Ates, 37, is charged with third-degree sexual assault. Ates allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a parking garage at 6th and Olive Friday afternoon. Ates was on parole for failing to register as a sex offender.

The alleged act by Ates is the third sexual assault in a downtown parking garage in two weeks, all allegedly taking place in different garages. Floyd Crawford, 44, is the suspect in the previous two attacks.

Crawford allegedly assaulted women at garages owned by SP Plus. One victim told News 4 she was upset by the lack of surveillance cameras at the garage where she was assaulted.

The garage where Ates is accused of sexually assaulting a woman is owned by Parking Systems of America, whose corporate office did not respond to requests from News 4 for a comment. However, a parking attendant at the garage said the structure has working cameras and security personnel check the garage every 20 minutes.

St. Louis police told News 4 security at garages are the responsibility of the garage owner.
