BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A suspect has been charged in connection with the death of a Belleville man.

Jeremy Jackson, 33, is charged with first-degree murder.

On Sunday, the Belleville Police Department was called to a home in the 500 block of North 40th Street for a well-being check. When they arrived, officers found Nathan R. Funkhouser, 34, deceased inside the home. Responding officers alerted detectives, who requested an autopsy.

An autopsy conducted Monday led police to classify Funkhouser’s death as a homicide.

Police allege Jackson beat Funkhouser with a baseball bat before stabbing him in the chest. Funkhouser was dead for one week before he was found, police said.
