BARNHART, Mo. (KMOV.com) –  A man is facing charges for his alleged role in the death of a 3-year-old in Jefferson County.

William Allen Harris is charged with child abuse resulting in death.

Aubrey Harvey’s mother called police around 6:30 a.m. Monday and reported the girl as unresponsive. When officers arrived at the home in the 6600 block of Dry Creek Road in Barnhart they pronounced the child dead, according to police.

Harris is the boyfriend of the girl's mother. He was previously identified as a person of interest. Police said he was found a short distance away from his home in Barnhart.

Police said there were obvious signs of injuries on the child's body. Neighbors told News 4 they heard arguing between the mother and Harris often.

"I've heard her yelling before and then I've heard him and her yelling in the house," said neighbor Stephanie Johnson.

The mother lost custody of the 3-year-old and infant daughter, but had recently returned to live with her.
