Woman sentenced for stabbing death outside Granite City QuikTrip

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A 20-year-old woman could face up to 60 years in prison after she was found guilty for the stabbing death of a woman outside of a QuikTrip in Granite City in 2013.

Police say Breanna Maldonado, 20, attacked Kaitline Juenger, who later died from her injuries. It was revealed that both Maldonado and Juenger had ties to rival gang, investigators discovered. It took a jury to reach a verdict in less than three hours.

Maldonado and two others were driving a man, 26, to a hospital for treatment of an injury back in 2013, police say, when they stopped at the gas station. An argument began and Maldonado stabbed Juenger before driving away.

“This defendant brought violence and destruction to our community, and now we can hold her accountable by punishing her severely,” State's Attorney Tom Gibbons said in a prepared statement.
