(KMOV.com) – With millions of dollars spent every year to pay a so called “tampon tax,” women in New York are fighting back by filing a lawsuit.
Five women are trying to block the tax that imposes a four percent luxury tax on feminine hygiene products. The department classifies pads and tampons as general merchandise making them ineligible for a medical supplies tax exemption.
According to officials, New York woman pay about $14 million in taxes on feminine hygiene products each year.
