ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

MoDOT said it is struggling to keep up with the graffiti that is found on bridges and overpasses.

Many are noticing more graffiti on overpasses and bridges. According to MoDOT there has been an increase in such graffiti over the past six months. MoDOT told News 4 it is very difficult to clean up and doing so makes life difficult for drivers.

“Some locations are more complicated, we’ve seen them up here, like you’re seeing on the Mississippi River Bridge, we’ve had it mid spam of the Poplar Street Bridge,” said Michelle Voegle, with MoDOT. “So then we have to work around delays to the public to close lanes in order for us to remove it.”

MoDOT also said it has spent $20,000 and over 550 hours cleaning up the graffiti.

"It's also an issue setting up safe work zones for both our workers and for the traveling public and that translates into delays for drivers," Voegle said.

Police told News 4 they are looking for the people responsible.

If you see graffiti, MoDOT says you should call them and be patient in expecting their crews to clean it up.
