GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A fuel spill has closed Mississippi River traffic near Lock and Dam 27 in Granite City.

A vessel transiting the lock and dam was damaged, rupturing a fuel tank, the Coast Guard said. The tank holds 20,000 gallons of fuel, which is reportedly contained in the lock and dam.

The river is closed near the Lock and Dam until everything is cleaned up.
