EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders will visit Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville Friday.

The candidate has been getting strong support from college students and young adults because of his push for good education and plans to cut interest rates on student loan debt. Sanders has sponsored several bills supporting affordable and quality education. He has also stated that he wants to make public universities tuition-free.

Sanders’ visit will make him the first presidential candidate to visit the Metro East as part of the 2016 primary season.

The doors to the Vadalabene Center will open at 8 a.m. and Sanders is expected to speak at 10:30 a.m.  The event is open to the public.
