SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Firefighters are investigating several fires in the Benton Park neighborhood that they consider suspicious.

It took two hours for crews to put out a fire on Missouri Avenue on Monday, and they also battled another blaze on the same night. Seven other fires have broken out in the neighborhood since November, firefighters said. All of the blazes have occurred at vacant homes.

“We don’t want our homes burning down and that house (on Missouri) for example was going to be rehabbed,” said Katie Berry, a Benton Park resident.

Other than the type of building being targeted, firefighters have found no clear pattern from one fire to the next. Authorities are not sure if the same person is behind the fires.

The city can secure a vacant property on your street if you call the Citizens Service Bureau. The bureau comes out to ensure the house is locked so nobody can get inside and possibly cause a problem. You can contact the bureau by clicking here.
