Parents in the Hazelwood School District packed a school board meeting to share their opposition to cuts the school board passed in February.

Parents have formed committees and are developing alternative solutions to try and fix the $15 million budget hole. The district passed cuts to gym and music in February, but more than $6 million in cuts still need to be made.

The district told News 4 they will form a new committee to discuss and propose cuts. Many parents have said they have had very little say in the process and a state representative from Hazelwood has asked the superintendent to resign because he believes she is not listening to parents’ concerns.

Many parents say they were not aware of the budget shortfall until budget cuts to music and gym were announced. Documents show the district has communicated budget problems since 2013. Parents are circulating a petition to have an audit done.

Even though the district says the cuts already passed are a done deal, parents told News 4 they are not giving up in their fight to have the cuts reversed.
