ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A South County man accused of threatening a Muslim family looking at homes in his Affton neighborhood was charged Monday.

Leonard Debello, 71, is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon Motivated by Discrimination. A probable cause statement says Debello drove by the victims - a Muslim family - and shouted "You Muslim? All of you should die." Debello then allegedly went into his house and came out holding a gun and pointed it at the family, while saying "you, your wife and your kids have to die."

Debello then allegedly stated he was going to take a picture of the family's license plate and "come hunt them down", according to the probable cause statement.

Debello, who did not speak about the accusations directly last week when News 4 approached him, said he was off his medicine when the alleged incident took place. Debello takes medicine for war-related PTSD.

While Debello does not want to go public with his version of the confrontation, he does dispute some of the details in the police report. Debello told News 4 he takes responsibility for what happened, and wrote a letter of apology he wants the family to read.

This is a developing story. News 4 will post updated information shortly.
