FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The father of Jamyla Bolden continues to search for answers six months after she was murdered inside her home.

The 9-year-old was in her mother’s bedroom doing homework when 21-year-old De’Eris Brown walked up to the house and opened fire on August 20, according to police. Jamyla later died at the hospital.

A week after the shooting, Brown was arrested. Court records show that if his previous robbery sentence had not been suspended he would have been in jail at the time of the shooting.

Police in Ferguson have not say why Brown targeted the home saying “there is no update at this time.”

“It wasn’t a random drive-by, it wasn’t a stray bullet, the house did have an ‘X’ on it, I’ll put it that way,” said Jamyla’s father, James.

Since the fatal shooting, the community has rallied behind the young girl’s family, but her father feels the pain every day.

“The first time (visiting her grave) it was heartbreaking because coming up and seeing this, no father wants to walk up to a site and their child,” he said. “I still feel her presence, I feel it every day. When I come here it’s like a relief.”

Jamyla would have turned 10 in February.

Brown was charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court in April.
