A teen was robbed of a hoverboard as he walked out of a Papa John’s in Florissant Wednesday.

The robbery occurred at a Papa John’s store on north Lindbergh around 3:00 p.m. The thief was armed with a semi-automatic hand gun, police said. Authorities believe the suspect was just driving by, saw the teen and decided he wanted the hoverboard.

“The victim gave him the hoverbaord, but wasn’t injured. As a result of this, the suspect got into a black SUV and headed north on Lindbergh,” said Craig Dehart with Florissant police.

The suspect did not demand the victim’s wallet, keys or cell phone; he just wanted the hoverbaord, police said.

A similar robbery occurred in north St. Louis in January. In that incident, the victim fired back at one of the suspects, killing him.

Authorities are warning anyone who uses a hoverbaord to be cautious.

“Definitely be aware of that if you have a hoverbaord. Be aware of your surroundings and know there might be people who could take it from you,” said Dehart.

Authorities are still looking for the black SUV and suspect connected to the robbery. The suspect is described as a black male with a medium build, between 16-20 years-old, was wearing a dark hoodie and has short curly hair.
