FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – In-person interviews in the search for the new police chief in Ferguson will begin next week.

The City of Ferguson has selected seven finalists from the 54 applications that were sent in from across the country. Those finalist will be interviewed in person between March 3 and March 5.

During the interviews, Ferguson residents and police chiefs from surrounding cities will be present.

The names of the finalists or details about their experience will not be released until the city has narrowed the finalists down to three.

Once the selection is narrowed down to one, that person will have to pass a lie detector test and have a psychological evaluation.

The new chief will be walking into a tough job since the U.S. Department of Justice is suing the city for rejecting an agreement to address what it called “a pattern of discrimination.”

The new chief will earn between $85,000 and $95,000 per year.

The city hopes to have a new chief in place by April.
