NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

State Representative Keith English is asking for the head of the Hazelwood School District to resign, saying she and the district are not listening to the concerns of parents.

English wrote a letter in wake of the most recent school board meeting in which district officials voted in favor of cuts to music and gym to reduce a budget deficit. English said the district has been deceptive and intimated students during the most recent school board meeting. One student told News 4 she was escorted out of that meeting while speaking against the cuts.

“Something needed to be done. These parents are not being listened to and we to get back to reality where the taxpayer is listened to. Our kids are number one and I don’t think that has happened,” said English.

English added he is looking at filing legislation that could help ease the district’s budget problems.

Many parents said they were never told the district was facing budget problems. Some are focusing on the more than $1 million allocated to administration, including the $220,000 salary of Superintendent of Dr. Ingrid Clark-Jackson.

The Missouri Department of Education has already contacted Clark-Jackson about concerns that the district is not communicating with the public.

Clark-Jackson declined to speak to News 4 about the situation.
