ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The man who allegedly carjacked a woman and her three children was arrested for an unrelated crime, police said.

Police said the woman was sitting on the passenger side of her vehicle at the Schnucks grocery store when Leroy Coleman approached, pointed a gun at her and ordered her out of the car. Then he hit the 33-year-old woman with his gun, police added.

Authorities said when the mother got out of the car she attempted to get her children out of the backseat, but Coleman drove off with them in tow. Police said Coleman stopped the car a short distance later and let the children out of the car. Their ages are 5, 8 and 9.

The carjacking happened around 1 a.m. on February 19 near the intersection of Lindell Boulevard and North Sarah, just a block away from the St. Louis University campus. This is one of several armed robberies targeting women in the Central West End within the last month.

Coleman was arrested on unrelated charges, but could soon be facing more charges including kidnapping, police said.
