ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The Dream Big program at Berkeley Middle School is helping students overcome challenges to reach their dreams.

This week, the middle school held its 10th annual Dream Big Event. During the event, students heard from about a dozen successful professionals who told their personal stories.

Some of the speakers had trouble at home, others had problems at school and some were in trouble with the law, but all of them were able to overcome those challenges.

Event organizers said the key to getting young kids to dream is making them feel like they can relate to people who have achieved success in life.

“Our hope is that when they see other people who have overcome obstacles that will inspire them to be able to do the same,” said Elana Viviano, a teacher with the organization.

Teachers told News 4 the best part about this year’s event was that several of the students said their dream was to come back to the school and be a speaker for the program.
