ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger will introduce legislation to combat the heroin epidemic Tuesday.

Lawmakers plan to propose new legislation to fight the spread of heroin abuse in the St. Louis area.

In the past seven years, more than 2,700 people in St. Louis County have died from heroin overdose, and four out of five of them abused prescription drugs before turning to heroin.

Alderman Sam Page, who is also expected to be at Tuesday’s announcement, introduced legislation four years ago to combat the epidemic, but it never got the support needed to move forward.
