ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - The newly-opened St. Louis headquarters for presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders was vandalized on the morning of February 13.

Volunteers arrived to the new Cherokee Street location to find the message, “No politics on Cherokee,” written in bright blue spray paint.

“It’s just kind of sad that something like this would be vandalized,” said Quinn Gerstunecker, a bystander.

From murals to tagging, Cherokee Street is filled with graffiti. Some people call it art, others vandalism. But many bystanders say they were not too pleased with the new addition to the campaign headquarters in south St. Louis.

“It’s terrible, it’s terrible. It’s happening on this street that’s so diverse,” said Mathew James.

Officials say volunteers were able to clean up the vandalism quickly, as they prepare to increase efforts to get Missourians registered before the February 17 deadline.

Greg Minchack, a spokesperson for the campaign, says the official grand opening for the headquarters is set to happen towards the end of the third week of February.
