MACOUPIN COUNTY (KMOV.com) – Authorities have confirmed remains found in Macoupin County on February 15, 2016 belong to a man reported missing in 2012.

Joseph Wilson’s remains were found in the 7200 block of Route 159 in Plainview by children, who later reported them to their parents.

Evidence found at scene led investigators to believe the 24-year-old died as a result of a homicide. Based on the condition of the remains, police believe the homicide could have occurred in 2012 or 2013.

Family members reported Wilson missing on April 2, 2012.

Wilson’s cause of death has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
