ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Road crews in Missouri and Illinois are taking extra precautions before more snow hits the St. Louis-area Wednesday.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) said they need to stay ahead of the winter weather.

A fleet of trucks is prepared to take to the streets to make sure they are clear for drivers.

IDOT admitted to News 4 they should not have pre-treated roads before Tuesday morning’s snow because it led to more problems.

Ahead of Wednesday’s snow, crews throughout the area will be assessing road conditions before deciding to ramp up operations.

“If we need more, we’re not afraid to ramp up. We can put 200 trucks out and we can have them out in about 45 minutes if need be,” said IDOT employee Joe Monroe.
