Study: Millions of Americans call in sick Monday after Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Millions of Americans call in sick the day after the Super Bowl.

According to a 2016 study done by the Workforce Institute, each year as many as 16.5 million Americans may call in sick and 7.4 million may come in late because they stayed up watching the big game.

In 2008, it was estimated that 1.5 million people called in sick the Monday after the game.

People between the ages of 18 and 34 are most likely to call in sick.

The morning after is a challenge, and U.S. employers pay the price.  Millions of dollars in productivity are lost because of the sick calls, according to researchers.
