Police concerned about rising number of power tool thefts in Franklin Co.

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – Police are warning residents of rural Franklin Co about the rising number of power tool thefts.

Since the start of the 2016, there have been more break-ins of barns and outbuildings than homes, police say. Authorities believe thieves are targeting rural areas because they believe it’s more difficult to be caught.

“It seems these people are targeting stuff to be traded for meth that has been brought in from outside the area,” said Det. Jim Biggs with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Police want residents to be alert.

Authorities are warning thieves that they may encounter farmers who are armed.

The sheriff’s office is attempting to organize neighborhood watch groups to stop the thefts.
