Taxpayer contribution to Crestwood Mall redevelopment divides residents

Posted: Updated:
CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Crestwood residents are divided on how much taxpayer should be contributed to help redevelop the Crestwood Mall site.

Chicago-based Urban Street Group is proposing a $100 million project that would bring commercial and residential development to the mall site. The company is asking for a $25 million economic aid package.

Residents packed the Crestwood Community Center Wednesday to voice their opinion on the project. While nearly everyone agrees the mall site should not sit vacant, there is difference of opinion on how much taxpayer money should go towards the project.

The Lindbergh School District is opposed to the plan, saying it will deprive the district of much needed revenue.
