EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - -

A man was killed in a house fire in East St. Louis Wednesday night, firefighters said.

Twin brothers in their 50s were at the home on Central when the blaze broke out around 7:30 p.m.

One brother made it out of the house, but the other brother, who was confined to a wheelchair, died after being trapped inside by the flames and heavy smoke.

“The damage in there is extensive. It took the whole bottom of the house, it’s like a two-story house. It has extreme damage to it and we have heat damage and smoke damage upstairs,” said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Dill.

The state fire marshal is currently working to determine the cause of the fire.

The deceased man’s name has not been released.
