Metro East student athletes are starting to see a domino effect from the teacher's strike at the start of the school year.

Coaches and teachers warned that football players at East St. Louis Senior High School were losing out on scholarship offers because they didn't get to play enough games, and Wednesday that proved true.

The Flyers’ season ended on September 26 because of the strike, and with National Signing Day arriving Wednesday, many missed out on scholarship offers. Some athletes took matters into their own hands, leaving in October to live with family in other school districts. Some, like East St. Louis’ Tre’vour Simms received scholarship offers anyway, eventually committing to Mizzou. Unfortunately, many more never had the opportunity.
