Child allegedly left unattended on daycare bus for hours

ST. LOUIS ( --- A family is alleging a north St. Louis daycare left their 3-year-old son on a bus for seven hours with no food or water.

Grandmother Shanica Jones and mother Tahanica Scott say a bus with GSL Daycare picked up Dallas, 8:30 a.m., but they say they received a call at 3 p.m. from GSL saying he was on the bus all day.

“To find out that my son has been left in an alley on a bus by himself, that is terrifying and traumatic. He is 3-years-old,” said Scott .

“No food, no drink, no restroom. He is by himself, he is 3. There is no way, no explanation for that,” said Jones.

Dallas, 3, was on the bus with his 10-month-old brother Dakota, who was taken off the bus.

"It was kind of terrifying because you don't know what state your child is in," Scott said. "Anything could have happened to him. that's a terrible neighborhood."

Police were called and they notified the state. This morning, two investigators with the Department of Social Services and two with the state Health Department came to the family's home as part of their investigation.

"Basically, they were just asking have we had other problems concerning the school or the workers at the school," Jones said.

GSL was involved in a past incident. In 2011, it was put on probation by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services after a 2-year-old was left alone on a bus for six hours.

GSL elected not to comment on the Dallas’ situation or what happened in 2011.
