The mother of woman who was allegedly shot and killed by her husband in University City believes the problems in her daughter’s marriage could have been overcome.
Cameron Harper admitted to officers that he shot his wife Jannicka Andujar while his kids were inside their apartment, police said. The children are now in protective custody.

Shirley Moffit-Smith, Andujar’s mother, told News 4 there were problems in the marriage, but she never thought her son-in-law would use violence.

“In my presence this guy was so gentle, so sweet. I would never ever have thought in a million years that he would do this to my daughter. I’ve never seen him scream at her or anything. When he greeted me with a hug, it was ‘yes ma’am, no ma’am,” said Moffit-Smith.

Moffit-Smith also believes Harper had a lot of potential.

Neighbors said Harper, Andujar and Andujar’s children from a previous marriage moved in during the summer of 2015. During that time, police were called to the apartment several times.

“Since they moved in, officers were there three or four times,” said neighbor Keith Debow. “My kids would hear it every night. Would wake up every night from arguments. I had to tell them to go back to sleep, it’s going to be okay.”

Andujar worked as a dancer in the Metro East. Acquaintances told News 4 they believe jealousy and money were the root of many arguments.
