ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Crews will break ground Monday on renovations to Union Station.

The renovations will center on a 200-foot Ferris wheel. The idea is to add green space, light shows and a large fountain to make the area a family-friendly plaza with food, drinks and entertainment.

The renovations will also expand the hotel at the old train station, bringing the total number of rooms to 587. The new rooms will have a train theme where guests will get personalized train tickets for their rooms at check-in.

LHM owns Union Station, which is the same group that owns the Hilton at the Ballpark hotel. The group plans to spend $70 million on the renovation project.

It is unknown when the renovations will be complete.
