MSD: Avoid contact with the Meremac River between Fenton and the Mississippi River

Posted: Updated:

With increasing temperatures on the way for this weekend, the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) is asking the public to steer clear of any activity near the Meramec River between Fenton and the Mississippi River.

The flooding from a month ago caused the MSD Wastewater Treatment Plant in Fenton to go offline. Now, wastewater from homes and businesses in the area is being diverted to the Meramec River without being treated by the plant.

MSD said there is no immediate threat to public health and safety. But MSD is still advising the public to avoid contact with that section of the Meramec River. Those who do come into contact with the river in that section should immediately and thoroughly wash the contact parts of their body with soap and water.
