O’FALLON, Ill (KMOV.com) -- A suspect, 15, is charged for his role in a bi-state crime spree and chase that ended in O'Fallon, Ill. Thursday.

The suspect is charged with one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a stole motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police.

He is a suspect in a pair of pursuits resulted in six suspects in custody, two recovered stolen vehicles and a brief lockdown of multiple O’Fallon schools.

The incidents began just after 9:00 a.m., when the Swansea Police Department notified officers in O’Fallon that three men driving in a silver Audi were attempting to break into vehicles. Before O’Fallon police encountered the vehicle, however, it was spotted by a Fairview Heights officer. The officer also determined from the Audi’s registration that the vehicle was previously stolen in an armed hijacking in St. Louis.

While Fairview Heights police were pursuing the Audi, O’Fallon officers received two calls at the same time. The first was from a citizen concerned about an SUV pulling a trailer with its doors open, having just seen it leaving the parking lot of a Schnucks in the 900 block of East Highway 50. The second call was from the owner of the SUV, saying his vehicle and trailer were just stolen.

The first caller added a second vehicle may be involved in the theft, which she identified as a silver Audi with Missouri registration.

O’Fallon officers located the SUV on Scott-Troy Road, but when they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled west on East Highway 50 toward Lebanon. The officers pulled back in their pursuit, not wanting to endanger other drivers. Shortly after, a Lebanon officer spotted the SUV heading south on Route 4 and gave pursuit.

The SUV fled onto westbound I-64 and the trailer came off the hitch, crashing into shoulder of the entrance ramp. The pursuit entered O’Fallon again from the Greenmount Road interchange, and the SUV crashed shortly after into the Jack Schmitt Chevrolet security gate.

Two male occupants fled on foot from the crash and were captured nearby shortly after.

While that pursuit and crash was happening, another O’Fallon Police Officer located the silver Audi traveling westbound in the 200 block of East Highway 50. He attempted to stop the Audi, but when it fled north Lincoln Avenue, he stopped the pursuit for safety. A similar Audi was found in a wooded area of East St. Louis.

Police decided because the incident involved an unknown number of possibly armed suspects, local O’Fallon schools were briefly placed on lockdown, but classes were still going on during that time. Once officers felt it was safe, the lockdown was lifted.

In addition to the 15-year-old, an 11-year-old from the SUV is also in custody at the conclusion of the chase. The Audi was recovered Thursday afternoon in East St. Louis, and officers subsequently took four adults into custody in connection with the carjacking and police chase.

No one was injured during the incident.
