Francis Howell School District not asking for tax increase this year

Posted: Updated:

ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) – The Francis Howell School District will not attempt to pass a property tax increase in 2016.

Last year, the district asked voters to approve a tax hike proposal, which a majority of voters rejected.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the school board voted to approve $4 million in cuts for the school year beginning next August. By cutting 29 positions, most of them teaching positions, the district says they should save about $3.2 million. Other reductions include a one day, no pay furlough for top administrators.

The district is hoping the teacher cuts can be done through attrition without any layoffs.
