Illinois State Police recover pound of meth during traffic stop

LITCHFIELD, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

The Illinois State Police seized one pound of Methamphetamine headed from Mexico to northern Illinois on I-55 near Litchfield.

The police say that the motorist was allegedly stopped by an Illinois State Police Sergeant for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the officer allegedly noticed signs of criminal activity and the ISP Canine Unit was called in response. Police say the unit helped find the pound of meth, worth up to $5,000.

“There were several indicators of criminal activity which caused the Sergeant to look beyond just the traffic stop," Lieutenant Timothy Tyler said. "All our officers who worked on this stop are to be commended. Methamphetamines have destroyed, and continue to destroy, countless lives."
