ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday morning.

The driver told police he was driving when the victim, later identified as Jerry Wiggins, 53, of the 5600 block of Wabada, suddenly appeared in front of his car. The driver unsuccessfully tried to swerve, police said.

The incident forced all lanes of the interstate closed from 7 until around 10:30 a.m. All lanes of the interstate were reopened around 11:15 a.m.

During the closure, all traffic was diverted onto Kingshighway.
