Local organization collecting coats for kids in need

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – School districts in the St. Louis area are scrambling to make sure every student has a coat for the winter season.

The St. Louis Section of the National Council of Jewish Women are collecting clothes for students in need. The group also stocks clothes closets in elementary schools.

Ellen Alper, Executive Director of the National Council of Jewish Women says items range from coats and uniforms to jeans, shirts, socks and underwear. All of the items are new.

“We are working on a drive to secure new and gently-used clothes, especially coats because the need is so great for kids right now, we’ve had several school districts call in the last few days looking for coats for kids,” said Alper.

The drive is to get as many new and gently-used coats as quickly as possible, says Alper.

You can drop off new or gently-used coats at the organization’s location: 295 N. Lindbergh Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63141. Or you can make a donation and they will get the coats.

If you would like to donate, visit their website for more information.
