O'Fallon, Ill. police offering self-defense class for women

Posted: Updated:

O’FALLON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The O’Fallon, Illinois Police Department will be teaching a self-defense class for women starting in March.

The class, called RAD, will teach basic self-defense through a combination of classroom work and physical activities.

The class will meet for two hours over a six week period starting March 3.

Police in O’Fallon said they have not seen an increase in crimes against women in the area, but it’s important to know how to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

“I think a lot of it is being cognizant of your surroundings there’s a lot of things you can do without actually having to fight someone or without having to defend yourself to keep yourself from being put in that situation,” said Nicholas Stewart, a patrol officer in O’Fallon.

Women age 16 and older can sign up for the $25 class. The class is open to everyone, not just those living in O’Fallon.
