CENTRAL WEST END (KMOV.com) – One man is behind bars for allegedly robbing two women at gunpoint in the heart of the Central West End on January 7.

Surveillance images provided the big break in the case.

Jim Whyte, Executive Director for the Central West End Security Initiative, said, “Those cameras produced excellent results. We captured images of both of the suspects and a vehicle that was likely involved in it.”

Stacey Phillips, 29, is seen in the Texas sweatshirt and his accomplice identified as Mark Gainey, 39, is the other suspect. According to officials, Gainey has been charged, but not caught.

Hours after News 4 displayed the images, CrimeStoppers say they received an anonymous tip that linked the two men to the crime.

Officials say Phillips’ crime spree did not end in the Central West En], just five days after the robbery on January 7, Phillips broke into a north St. Louis store, stealing cash and cigarettes.

According to officials, Phillips was arrested after the second incident and now felony charges are stacking up against him.

“The investment that the Central West End has made in technology, benefits our entire region. This is a case where our cameras were able to identify the guys responsible for the robbery, but it also helped identify a guy that was committing crimes elsewhere,” said Whyte.

Authorities say a judge set Phillips and Gainey’s bond at $150,000 on the alleged robbery charges.

Police say they are still trying to track down Gainey. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call St. Louis Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
