Employee accused of stealing thousands from JC Penney cash registers

An 18-year-old JC Penney employee is facing charges for allegedly stealing nearly $30,000 from cash registers over a series of months.

Kayleigh Shook, of south St. Louis, is charged with theft of property worth $25,000 or more. Authorities allege she stole $29,750 from cash registers at the JC Penney in Hampton Village.  A loss prevention manager told police Shook was caught on surveillance camera at each register in the store on the days off the thefts.

Shook eventually admitted to the crime to the loss prevention manager, police said.
