Police: Alleged downtown St. Louis package thief arrested

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a number of stolen packages at an apartment complex on 13th Street.

Dawren Thomas, 47, of St. Louis, was charged with four counts of Second Degree Burglary, a Class C Felony, and four counts of Theft Less Than $500, a first offense. Thomas allegedly stole from the same complex between December 10, 2015 and January 11, 2016. Police say that the suspect is captured on the building's surveillance video on several occasions using a butter knife to break into a door of the building. 

According to court records, a resident confronted the suspect after Thomas had left the building on Jan. 16. Thomas was allegedly in possession of additional packages that he had taken from the building.

Thomas has a record dating back to 1985 with stealing and burglary charges. Thomas was on parole stemming from previous burglary charges in 2011 that occurred in St. Louis County.
