Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – A person is calling people in St. Clair County allegedly pretending to be a sheriff’s deputy, police said.

The scammer goes by the name of James Marshall and tells the victims they have missed jury duty and a warrant has been issued for their arrest, police said. The man then allegedly instructs the person on the other end of the line to put money on a prepaid debit card in order to clear the warrant.

The scammer is calling from 618-972-6040, police said. If you receive a call from this number, call police.
