East St. Louis school given $4.8 million grant

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill (KMOV.com) – An elementary school in East St. Louis will receive a grant of over $4.8 million to help the school improve student performance and college readiness.

Gordon Bush Elementary is one of five schools across Illinois to receive a School Improvement Grant (SIG). The program allows low-performing schools a chance to receive grant money over five years to provide resources to raise achievement levels.

In addition to Gordon Bush Elementary, schools in Springfield, Sandoval, Chicago and Rockford also received grant money. In total, more than $20 million was given out through the SIG.
