ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The suspect who was fatally shot by police during an armed robbery at a South City KFC restaurant Sunday night has been identified.

Monday night, police identified Crayton West, 52, as the deceased suspect.

The incident happened at the restaurant on Grand and Gravois around 6:15 p.m. Police responded to the scene after a citizen flagged down an officer driving by, saying there was an armed robbery in progress at the restaurant.

The officer, a sergeant with nearly 13 years of service, saw West inside the fast food restaurant and confronted him. West raised his gun toward the 42-year-old sergeant, prompting the officer to shoot the suspect twice. Police said the Wests' gun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities said there is surveillance video of the situation, but it has not been released to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
