Mike Shannon speaks on closing downtown restaurant

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – After 30 years of business, Mike Shannon’s Steaks and Seafood is closing their downtown St. Louis location.

"Here's the situation. It's been a great 30 years in downtown St. Louis. We have great fans, great friends, and great employees, but we are going to concentrate on our Edwardsville restaurant and our restaurant at the airport and go forward from here," Mike Shannon, owner of the franchise, said.

The organization released a statement thanking friends, family, and vendors for their support. They say the purpose behind the closing is to “focus on opportunities with the Mike Shannon’s Grill franchise expansion.” The restaurant will close on January 30.

"We've got the last two weeks at Shannon's in downtown so we are going to have a party for the next two weeks, like we've partied for the past 30 years," Shannon said with a smile. "We've had incredible guests and people came from everywhere to this restaurant. Come to the restaurant and look at the memorabilia. This is a great community and has been for hundreds of years."

This isn't the only restaurant to close lately. Joe Buck's in downtown St. Louis, J. Buck's in Clayton, and The Dubliner all closed their doors last November.
