MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) –Police in the Metro East are searching for a man suspected of robbing numerous gas stations within the last year.

The suspect has been nicknamed the 'Redskins Bandit' because he wears a Redskins hooded sweatshirt with the hood tied around his face when he enters various gas stations in Madison and St. Clair Counties during the early morning hours.

The suspect was last seen robbing the ZX Service Station (also known as the BP gas station) in the 8400 block of Collinsville Road around 2:15 a.m. Thursday. After entering the store, the suspect, armed with a silver pistol, demanded money from the clerk.

It is unknown how much cash was taken from the store.

The suspect is believed to be behind more than three gas station robberies in the Metro East since 2015. Police told News 4 he is dangerous, and his hoodie is what makes him unique.

“Clearly he is dangerous. He’s somebody who is armed with a gun every time he has these robberies, it my understanding they’ve all been pretty much the same where the gun has been out the entire time,” said Madison County Sheriff Capt. Mike Dixon.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect should call 618-692-4433.
