SWANSEA, Ill. ( -- According to a report from the Swansea Police Department, a suspect is in custody in the St. Clair County Jail after a string of bizarre incidents that began with him singing in the middle of the street.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, officers were sent to the 1300 block of Kinsella Avenue after a caller reported Jessie Wilson, 52, singing in the street and harassing passersby. The caller reportedly knew Wilson, but did not want him to come into their home.

When officers arrived, Wilson was in the caller’s sunroom. He refused to leave with the officers unless the homeowner gave him chicken. When the homeowner returned with a chicken wing, Wilson demanded three, and refused officers’ requests to leave.

Eventually officers removed him from the sunroom, but because he refused to walk, they had to lift him from his chair. Wilson also grabbed the door frame on the way out, then refused to sit in the squad car.

Officers eventually secured him in the back of the vehicle, but once they arrived at the St. Clair County Jail, Wilson refused to get out.

Correctional officers were finally able to remove him from the car, but as jail staff attempted to search him, he bit one of the correctional officers.

According to the Swansea Police Department, they have received 89 calls about Wilson and he has been charged with a crime 122 times in St. Clair County.

For Monday’s offenses he has been charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
