Police warn of Maryland Heights telephone scam

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

There is a new telephone scam targeting senior citizens in Maryland Heights.

The Maryland Heights Police Department said that the scam involves the suspect calling homes and claiming to be conducting a survey for the City of Maryland Heights. This is not the case, the caller is after personal information. 

Maryland Heights isn't conducting any surveys. 

Police say the best way to combat the scam is to hang up the phone immediately. The number is question is supposedly 314-254-0099 and is labeled "city of mylnd hgts" on caller ID.

Thus far, the scam has been limited to the Maryland Heights area. Contact Officer Fedak of the Maryland Heights Police Department at 314-738-238 for any questions or concerns.
